Instead of saying to someone, “A penny for your thoughts,” I've decided to go a step further. "A pump for your nodes" is my latest client quip after the re-launching of IO's Organic Detox Facial. You see, like many of us humans I am keenly aware of my heart beating, my lungs breathing, and my blood pumping. What I had forgotten about was my lymphatic system, which is arguably the most important yet quietly misunderstood system that we never think about!
Unlike our blood which pumps through our bodies, the lymph "oozes" along and therefore can become stagnant very easily. Just imagine some of the various issues that can arise as a result of stagnant lymph. It NEEDS to move because it helps rid the body of pathogens (viruses, bacteria, fungus and parasites). It carries our body’s waste from the tissues and into the bloodstream for removal. The more I learn about this vital system the more I appreciate the daily ritual of dry brushing, which I'm happy to say I've been doing on-and-off for years (and you should too!). It's one of the simplest ways to get your own lymph moving at the start of your day and something we've discussed here on our blog before. We've also incorporated some into our newly minted Detox Facial Treatment featuring two of our most beloved organic lines, Laurel Whole Plant Organics and Josh Rosebrook Skincare.
In 75 minutes, we will take you through a different type of facial experience--one in which every carefully carried out tap, twist, and brush stroke is done with the movement of lymph in mind. Guiding it towards its many drainage points (nodes) and encouraging all the functions of the lymph system to perform harmoniously. Its channels cover almost every inch of our bodies, running just under the skin, so a very light massage, working with the flow of the system is all it takes to stimulate it. Antioxidant and anti-inflammatory herbal formulas fortify the skin throughout every step of the treatment. A relaxing and grounding therapy, this facial includes lavish massage throughout and is wonderful for many types of skin (but your esthetician will be sure to have a chat beforehand regarding possible contraindications).
So I invite you to enjoy "a pump for your nodes"--and then some (but feel free to share your thoughts below, penny optional)
