When seasons change, so should our skincare routines and wellness rituals. Some skin types tend to do better with cooler, drier air, while others experience what they describe as the sudden appearance of aging - dryness and lackluster tone. Fortunately, there are a few best practices that any skin type can benefit from during the winter months to keep skin hydrated and radiant.
If your everyday moisturizer just isn't delivering enough hydration, a simple solution is to simply add to it. This can done by mixing a few drops of your favorite facial oil in with your moisturizer or layering an extra serum underneath to help draw water to the skin. A few favorites are In Fiore Calme Oil Concentre and Arcona Hydrating Serum.
Trick number two: double up on cleansers in the winter, when skin is feeling especially dry and tight. Try adding a nourishing oil or cream cleanser in the morning to add extra moisture protection and prevent too much stripping of our precious oils. Favorites are Kahina Cleanser and In Fiore Treate Gentle Cleansing Emulsion.
Finally, note that not all toners are created equal, and there are a few that are ideal for winter. The ones to try this season will offer extra hydration and will feature potent water-binding extracts like aloe vera. For an extra burst of nourishing hydration, start by spritzing a floral hydrosol, then follow with a toner. Favorites include May Lindstrom's Jasmine Garden or Sircuit Molecular Mist (both available at International Orange spa in San Francisco.)
